The Patina Collection — Ancient Roman Glass
Bold and unmistakably historic, this striking necklace from The Patina Collection showcases a remarkable strand of authentic Ancient Roman glass beads nearly 2,000 years old. The design features substantial, chunky fragments of Roman glass whose surfaces reveal the extraordinary mineral patina formed after centuries buried beneath the earth.
Soft tones of sea-green, aqua, olive, and pale champagne move throughout the strand, while shimmering mineral deposits and weathered textures highlight the glass’s ancient origins. Each piece was once part of vessels used throughout the Roman Empire before being rediscovered centuries later.
The necklace is carefully hand-strung by designer Diana Kauffman, allowing the bold shapes and luminous surfaces of the ancient glass to remain the centerpiece of the design. Diana spent more than thirteen years collecting these rare Roman glass beads, making every necklace in this capsule exceptionally limited.
Small spacer beads create a gentle rhythm between the substantial glass forms, allowing each fragment of history to stand on its own.
The piece is finished with a handmade sterling silver clasp, adding a sculptural artisanal detail that complements the organic character of the ancient glass.
Because each Roman glass bead bears unique mineral markings, iridescence, and variations in tone, no two necklaces in this collection will ever be identical.
A powerful strand of history—bold, luminous, and nearly two millennia in the making.
